Dr. Xie’s main research interests are in the area of Computer Vision and Medical Image Understanding, including object tracking, 3D human pose estimation, video segmentation, image segmentation, deformable modelling, texture analysis, medical image analysis, and statistical modelling.
He is currently leading a number of projects, including patient-specific modelling of coronary disease, 3D and 4D segmentation of multimodal medical data, 3D human pose estimation, and interaction modelling.
Example Research
Title: 3D and 4D segmentation of medical data
Clinical aims: The aim is to reduce or remove tedious, subjective, costly manual annotation of 3D/4D medical data routinely performed by clinicians in order to carry out quantitative analysis, and to improve accuracy and reproducibility of geometry reconstruction, motion estimation, and
quantitative analysis.
Technical aspects: The tool developed will be able to carry out automated anatomical structure recovery with minimum user interference. The extracted geometrical shapes and global/local motion patterns will be used for quantitative analysis and further computational studies, for example, for computer assisted diagnosis and digital intervention.
Looking for Commercial Partners:
To support or develop new projects in Machine Vision applications, Medical Imaging, and Clinical Trials and Studies.
Collaboration: On RIVIC project, Dr. Xie is collaborating with Prof. Reyer Zwiggelaar from Aberystwyth University on machine learning and medical image analysis.
